Fatboy Romeo uses puppets, projected images, and music to set "Romeo and Juliet" inside a world of American consumerism run amuck. Where Shakespeare's characters are emotional gluttons - too much desire, too much anger, too much grief - our societal gluttony is of the multi-media and consumer goods variety. We are overweight, over-stimulated, and under-achieving, fat with the gimmicks and gadgets of our own culture. |
|
Fatboy Romeo satirizes both the ridiculous excesses of the original text and those of modern society in a 45-minute adaptation that turns Shakespeare's characters into the outrageous archetypes of consumer culture. |
